A seven-year-old boy who fell into a river near his home in Midleton, Co Cork yesterday has died at Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin.
He was transferred to Dublin after undergoing emergency treatment at Cork University Hospital last night.
The child had been playing with friends near his home in Tir Cluain when he fell into the Owenacurra River around 7pm.
The river runs alongside the housing estate and the Mill Road. The water was high after several days of rain.
Two neighbours are understood to have pulled the child from the water about 250 metres from where he went in.
The Shannon-based rescue helicopter brought the child from Cork to Crumlin shortly before midnight.
