A man is being questioned as part of the garda investigation into the death of Anthony Barrett at a house in Kilkenny city earlier this month.

Mr Barrett, who was in his 40s and originally from Castlecomer, was found with fatal injuries at a house in Fatima Place on the evening of 7 March.

He had been living in another part of the city, but had been drinking that day with a man in the city.

There was bruising to parts of Mr Barrett's body and gardaí are trying to find out if he was the victim of an assault.

However, Mr Barrett may also have suffered a fall at the house that day or on a previous day.

This morning gardaí arrested a Kilkenny man, also in his 40s, for questioning in relation to the death.

He can be questioned for 24 hours.
