A man in his 20s has been arrested after a teenager was stabbed on his way home from school in Drogheda, Co Louth.

It is believed the 16-year-old boy is in a serious condition after the incident in the town centre.

The boy was walking along Laurence Street with some friends at around 4.15pm when they were approached by a man and stabbed.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where it is understood his condition, while not life-threatening, is serious.
