The State's ethics watchdog, the Standards in Public Office Commission, is to investigate complaints about Independent TD Michael Lowry's interest in certain lands in Britain.

A total of 380 complaints about Mr Lowry's alleged failure to declare his interest in the land were sent to the Clerk of the Dáil, who referred it to the Dáil Committee of Members' Interests.

The committee today considered the matter, and decided to refer the matter to the Standards Commission, as it considered it was better placed to conduct an investigation of the matter.
