The Health Service Executive has confirmed that it is investigating a number of pregnancy counselling agencies following newspaper reports.

The Irish Independent reported today that an undercover probe was carried out by a team of women, some from the pro-life movement, who secretly recorded counselling sessions at 11 locations.

The report claims the footage showed counsellors at several locations giving advice that was illegal and medically dangerous.

The HSE confirmed to RTÉ that it has begun an investigation following today's reports.

A spokesperson for the HSE said its investigation will be looking into agencies that receive money from it.
