Three men have appeared before a special sitting of the district court in Cork charged with the possession and possession for sale or supply of cannabis resin to the value of €1.5m.

The seizure in Cork city yesterday followed a joint operation involving members of the Cork and Limerick drug squads.

Jerome O'Halloran, 59, of St Joseph's, Boreenmanna Road, Cork; Trevor Williamson, 46, of Meadowbrook, Herons Wood, Carrigaline, Cork; and Michael O'Connell, 53, from O'Malley Park, Southhill, Limerick, were all charged.

Gardaí did not object to bail for Mr O'Halloran and Mr Williamson and Judge Olann Kelleher remanded both of them on their own bonds to appear again at Cork District Court on 3 October.

Mr O'Connell did not apply for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear at Cork District Court on 4 October.

All three men, who are unemployed, were granted free legal aid.
