Two men have been arrested after a shooting incident in Bunratty, Co Clare, last night in which a man was seriously injured.

The men, who are aged in their 20s, were arrested this morning in Cork city.

They are being questioned at Ennis and Shannon garda stations and can be held for seven days. They were transferred this afternoon from stations in Cork.

The 21-year-old man was approached by two men in the car park of the Bunratty Castle Hotel and shot several times.

He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, where his condition is described as critical.

The attackers are reported to have fled the scene in a waiting black car.

A gun was recovered near the scene, which was forensically examined.
