A 28-year-old man has died after he was stabbed during an altercation in Dublin.

Gerard Burnett was seriously injured outside a house at Castlecurragh Vale in Mulhuddart just before midnight.

Mr Burnett was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, but he was pronounced dead at around 1am.

The scene has been forensically examined. A post mortem examination was carried out this afternoon.

Gardaí have said that they are conducting a murder investigation.

They believe three men called to the victim's house and an altercation took place.

Mr Burnett was stabbed a number of times and the men then left the area on foot.
