Gardaí have appealed for the public's assistance following a violent attack on an elderly woman in Kilkenny on Tuesday.
The 86-year-old remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following the attack in broad daylight on the outskirts of the city.
The pensioner was walking a short distance to her home when she was assaulted by a man and robbed of cash at College View between 11am and 11.30am.
During the assault the woman ended up on the ground.
Gardaí are investigating whether she fell or was forced down on the ground by her assailant.
She was initially treated by paramedics at her home, but was later rushed to St Luke's Hospital by ambulance.
A man in his late 30s is being detained at Kilkenny Garda Station following the robbery.
He is being questioned over his suspected involvement in the incident.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 056-7775000.
''We are appealing to anyone who was in the College View, Walkin Street, Friary Street and High Street areas of the city between 10am and 11.30am on Tuesday morning to contact us," a garda spokesman said.
