One man has died and two others had to swim to safety after the car they were in entered the sea off Courtown, Co Wexford.

Their car collided with a wall before entering the water at Courtown Harbour at around 10.30pm last night.

Two of the occupants, both teenagers, managed to swim to shore.

A 19-year-old man was later taken from the water by the Courtown RNLI lifeboat and emergency services personnel. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination.

The scene remains preserved pending a full technical examination.
