Gardaí have been liaising with police in Germany after a German woman left a baby behind in a Dublin city centre hotel last weekend.
The baby boy - who is two weeks old - is currently being looked after by the Health Service Executive.
The events around this case unfolded at The Glen Guest House on Lower Gardiner Street in Dublin 1 over the weekend.
A German woman - believed to be in her early 20s - checked in with her baby boy at around 6pm on Friday night.
The following morning she left the hotel at 5.15am alone and headed for Dublin Airport.
Just under three hours later a cleaner went into the room where the woman had stayed and discovered the baby boy alone - in the middle of the bed - crying.
The baby was taken to Temple Street Hospital and is currently in the care of the HSE.
Hotel staff say they have been told the woman is in hospital in Germany and that her parents are en route to Ireland.
They have also been told that the baby is doing fine.
Today, the German Embassy confirmed it is helping out in the case, but refused to comment on whether German police are investigating if a crime was committed.
