Gardai have arrested two men following the seizure of drugs with a potential street value of €6.5m.

The herbal cannabis and cannabis resin were concealed in consignments of frozen meat at premises in Ballyfermot in Dublin and Naas, Co Kildare.

The seizure was the result of a joint operation between gardai and customs.

Officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit, along with gardai from Ballyfermot, carried out two raids in Dublin and Kildare yesterday afternoon.

They found 180kg of herbal cannabis and 630kg of cannabis resin at two premises - on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot and in the Togher Business Park in Naas.

Two men, aged 36 and 43, were arrested. The older man has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The younger man is being detained under the Drug Trafficking Act at Clondalkin Garda Station.

He can be questioned for up to a week.
