The Central Bank has issued a warning about a US-based firm that has been offering investment services in Ireland.
Elliott and Laurence Consultancy Group is not authorised to practise in Ireland.
The Central Bank published the warning notice in today's newspapers.
It said the company does not have clearance to operate in Ireland, but has been offering investment services.
The Central Bank said this is a criminal offence and clients of unauthorised firms are not eligible for compensation from the investor compensation scheme.
The Central Bank also said that since August 1998, when its legal powers came into force, 91 warning notices naming 168 firms have been issued.
A list of them is available on its website or by phoning 01-2244000.
