Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has told the Dáil the Budget detail does not protect the vulnerable as promised by Fine Gael.

Mr Martin said cuts to the DEIS scheme would be damaging to the most vulnerable and Education Minister Ruairi Quinn had now admitted he had made a mistake.

He was speaking during Leader's Questions this afternoon.

Mr Martin asked what mechanism would be used to reverse the cuts.

The Taoiseach said he was aware of the impact on DEIS schools.

Enda Kenny said the Minister is waiting to get a report that examines the schools in four weeks' time.

Mr Kenny said the Minister will then see where he can make cuts. He said there was no question of a reversal of the figures.

Mr Martin pressed the Taoiseach on the teacher numbers and other cuts in DEIS.

He said if the Minister says now that it is wrong to cut, then the cuts should be reversed.

The Taoiseach said there was no case of reversing a Budget that had passed through the Houses.
