Police in Northern Ireland have said that an explosive device found in a car in Belfast this morning was viable.

The discovery had earlier lead to a security alert in the Blackdam Court area in the north of the city.

Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion and local residents who were evacuated from their homes have now been allowed to return.
