A memorial service to remember young people who have died from sudden cardiac death has taken place in Dublin.

The Sudden Cardiac Death in the Young Support Group encouraged family and friends of those whose lives have been affected by sudden cardiac death to take part in a candle lighting ceremony at Monkstown Church of Ireland parish church.

The service was held in association with the Irish Heart Foundation.

Secretary of the support group Monica Martin said it is not just young sports people who are affected by this condition.

Ms Martin said there are about 60 to 80 deaths each year and many of these happen when people are at home.
