A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a 12-year-old girl in Dublin last year.

The body of Michaela Davis was found on a bank of the Royal Canal in August 2010.

Jonathan Byrne from Lohunda Downs in Clonsilla was remanded in custody for sentencing in December.

He pleaded guilty in the Central Criminal Court today to her murder and two other serious charges.

Byrne's Defence Counsel told the court the prosecution had some victim impact evidence that he would like to see before the matter is dealt with.

One of Michaela Davis's uncles was remanded in custody after he shouted obscenities in the court when Byrne pleaded guilty.

The judge said he would deal with the matter later today.
