A 37-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of the District Court in Galway, charged in connection with the death of publican and schoolteacher John Kenny.
Florin Fitzpatrick, from Romania, was remanded in custody to appear again before Harristown District Court next Friday.
Mr Fitzpatrick was charged with withholding information in connection with the unlawful killing of John Kenny.
The 56-year-old man was found dead at his pub in Oughterard in the early hours of last Sunday. A post mortem revealed he died as a result of an assault.
The court heard how Florin Fitzpatrick was living in Ireland for 10 years and was a separated father of two Irish children. He previously worked as a security guard at the bus station in Galway city for seven years.
Judge Mary Fahy refused an application for bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charges and the possibility of further more serious charges at the conclusion of the investigation into Mr Kenny's death.
