Investigations are continuing into the death of a Co Galway publican after his body was discovered yesterday evening in Oughterard.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a post mortem examination at Galway University Hospital.
Results show that 56-year-old John Kenny died as a result of an assault.
Experts from the Garda Technical Bureau examined the pub and the area around it.
Mr Kenny ran the family-owned pub in Oughterard and also taught at the Presentation College in Athenry.
His body was found by family members on the ground floor of the pub yesterday evening.
Gardaí believe Mr Kenny was fatally injured in the early hours of Sunday morning.
No motive for his death has yet been established.
Supt Tony O'Donnell has appealed to everybody who was in the pub on Saturday night to contact the gardaí in Oughterard, or in Galway city.
Speaking on Morning Ireland, Supt O'Donnell confirmed that John Kenny was a brother of a member of An Garda Síochána.
