The Health Service Executive was not forthcoming with information sought by the Minister of State at the Department of Health about the future of the only public HIV respite unit in the country.

It is feared that the Rowan Ward at Cherry Orchard Hospital in Dublin - which provides support for people with HIV - is set to close.

Minister Roisin Shortall said she was not satisfied with the extent and quality of the information that was made available to her in advance of a topical issues debate in the Dáil today.

She said the information was not forthcoming.

Minister Shortall said she intends to establish the facts surrounding what is a rumour about the future of the unit.
