Four SDLP MLAs have announced their intentions to run for the leadership of the party.

The party's two South Belfast MLAs - Alasdair McDonnell and Conall McDevitt - have put their names forward, along with the deputy leader Patsy McGlone and the Stormont Environment Minister Alex Attwood.

Dolores Kelly, an MLA for Upper Bann, and Foyle-based 28-year-old Colum Eastwood, have already secured enough nominations to stand for deputy leadership of the party.

Margaret Ritchie resigned the leadership of the party last week.

Her successor will be chosen at the SDLP's annual conference in November.
