Up to 175 jobs are at risk at a food distribution company in Tallaght in Dublin.
Allied Logistics, a subsidiary of Allied Foods, said it was "likely" to make 175 staff redundant.
The company said that this follows ''the decision of a major Irish grocery multiple to seek to terminate significant logistics contracts to distribute milk, chilled and frozen food to its Irish outlets.''
Allied Foods employs 270 staff between its sites in Tallaght in Dublin and on the Kinsale Road in Cork.
The company said it would now enter a 30-day consultation period with staff representatives.
In a statement, SIPTU said it was seeking an urgent meeting with Allied Foods to explore alternatives to the proposed 175 redundancies.
