A prisoner has escaped from custody while being treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.
The prisoner was brought to the hospital in the custody of prison officers shortly after 9am.
He was undergoing treatment at the hospital when he made his escape.
Two prison officers tried to apprehend the prisoner but were unable to restrain him.
The man, who is in his 20s, had less than a year of his sentence to serve.
Gardaí are seeking the assistance of the public and the Irish Prison Service has launched an investigation.
