Three young men have been killed in road crashes in counties Monaghan, Mayo and Tyrone.

The body of a 20-year-old man was found on a minor road at Lemgare near Clontibret, Co Monaghan, at 7.30am, several hours after a taxi took him to the area.

It is understood he was hit by a car and his body lay on the ground for some time before being discovered.

Gardaí in Monaghan are appealing for anyone with information to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047-77211, the Garda Confidential line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

In Co Mayo, a 19-year-old man died after two cars collided on the Headford to Ballinrobe road outside Shrule at around 7.30am.

The driver of the second car was not seriously injured.

The road has been closed for a technical examination.

Elsewhere, a 19-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Ballynagowan Road at Stewartstown, Co Tyrone, at around 8am.

A woman, who was a passenger in the car, is in a serious condition in hospital.
