Legal issues concerning the elderly and vulnerable adults is the focus of a new organisation being launched today.

Solicitors for the Elderly Ireland is an independent national association of solicitors and barristers and is part of a UK organisation founded in 1999.

The group aims to improve the availability of legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.

It will run seminars, workshops and conferences for its members to help develop a best practice across legal professionals.

A spokesperson for the organisation says it aims to create a positive public awareness of the legal issues specific to older or vulnerable people.

It will also try to highlight the fundamental right they have to that specialist legal knowledge.
