A 26-year-old Offaly nurse who won a retrial after appealing a conviction for raping a woman in Brisbane has told her parents that the charges against her are to be dropped.
Anne-Marie O'Loughlin said she expects to return home to Ireland later in the week.
Her father Shay, from Edenderry, says he is 'over the moon' after hearing the news that authorities in Australia are expected to formally drop the charges in a Brisbane Court tomorrow.
Ms O'Loughlin told her parents that allegations of sexual offences made against her on 29 November 2009 had now been 'formally withdrawn'.
It has been reported in Brisbane that the 34-year-old woman, who cannot be identified, has withdrawn her complaint.
Prosecutors are expected to formally enter a 'nolle prosequi' - a declaration they will no longer proceed with the charges - in court tomorrow.
