A 19-year-old man has undergone surgery after being stabbed twice in Knocknaheeny in Cork city.

It is understood the man was stabbed during an altercation at Hollyhill Lane yesterday evening.

A man is alleged to have attacked a group of people in their late teens and early 20s who were drinking in the area.

Three other people received minor injuries during the incident.

The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he is in a serious condition.

Gardaí at Gurranabraher have appealed for anyone who was in the Hollyhill area of Knocknaheeny at around 6pm yesterday and who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
