Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign affairs Eamon Gilmore has visited a number of rural projects funded by Irish Aid.

After opening a warehouse to store grain in the Dodoma region, the Tanzanian minister of agriculture made Mr Gilmore an honorary member of the Maasai tribe.

The Tánaiste, who is on the second day of his visit to Tanzania, was dressed in traditional tribal costume and presented with an arrow and shield.

Later he viewed the erection of the first electrical pole in a small rural scheme.

ESB International has won a €15m contract to supervise €140m worth of electrical works in Tanzania.
