An eight-year-old girl has been killed following an accident involving a bouncy castle in Co Waterford.

The child was celebrating her First Holy Communion at a house in Coolnasmear area, on the Dungarvan to Clonmel road, at around 6pm yesterday evening

She was playing on the bouncy castle in the back garden of the house when the wind caught the inflatable object.

The child fell out and received serious head injuries.

She was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

It is understood the bouncy castle had been purchased during the week.

Gardaí say no-one else was injured in the incident and have described it as a tragic accident.
