A 52-year-old man, who runs a mass card business in Longford, has gone on trial charged with the unlawful possession of child pornography.

Thomas McNally with an address of 49 Foynes Court is facing two charges of the unlawful possession of child pornography on 6 and 7 February 2006.

The jury has been told that 300 images of naked children were discovered in a field on a farm outside Longford with a large steal safe that had been stolen from Mr McNally's home.

Mr NcNally's passport and bank documents were also found in the safe, which had been broken open.

Mr McNally is pleading not guilty and the trial is expected to last up to two weeks.
