Traffic numbers travelling into Dublin city centre have decreased for all types of vehicles but the number of pedestrians is increasing.

The latest Canal Cordon Count by Dublin City Council shows that the total number of vehicles decreased by 1.7% between 2009 and 2010.

But pedestrians were up by 3.2%.

The biggest decrease was a 19.6% drop in the number of motorcyclists, but pedal cyclists were also down by 5.9%.

Goods vehicles were down 8.6%, private cars down 0.6% and taxis decreased by 3.4%.

Overall, bus numbers were down 0.9%, with Dublin Bus included. But private bus vehicles actually increased by 6.2%.
