Galway Fire Brigade spent several hours bringing a blaze at a commercial estate in the city under control last night and during the early hours of this morning.

A number of premises have been damaged by the fire, but there are no reports of injuries.

It is understood the blaze broke out at a premises at the Riverside Commercial Estate, on the Tuam Road shortly before 8pm last night.

A thick cloud of smoke was visible for miles.

A number of units from Galway Fire Service, backed up by firefighters from Loughrea and Athenry attended.

It is believed none of the premises affected were occupied when the blaze broke out.
