A former personal assistant to U2's Adam Clayton has been sent forward for trial for embezzling almost €3m from the guitarist.

Carol Hawkins, 47, of Crannagh Road Rathfarnham, faces 184 charges under the theft and fraud offences act.

Ms Hawkins is accused of theft from accounts in name of Adam Clayton on various dates between 2005 and 2008.

At Dublin District Court this afternoon, Det Sgt Clodagh White of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation served her with the book of evidence in three volumes.

Ms Hawkins was sent forward for trial to the present sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The issue of legal aid was deferred after the State objected claiming they believe she has some assets. Ms Hawkins was remanded on bail.
