Three young women have died after mass panic broke out and crowds rushed for the exit at a disco in the Hungarian capital.

Police said the cause of the incident, in the popular ‘West-Balkan’ club in Budapest city centre, was not yet known.

They rejected reports the mass panic had been triggered by a knife-fight on the premises.

A spokesman for the city's rescue services, Pal Gyorfi, said it was too early to determine the exact cause of death of the women, whose ages were not given.
