A 54-year-old Co Westmeath woman has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of Lillian Scanlon at her home in Athlone over two years ago.
Agnes McCarthy, of 10 Castlemaine Street in Athlone, was arrested in the town last night.
She was charged with the unlawful killing of Ms Scanlon at 17 Valley Court, Bonavalley, Athlone, between 8 May and 9 May 2008.
Garda Tom Higgins said Ms McCarthy made no reply when the charge was read to her.
The gardaí sought a remand on bail until 13 October.
Judge David Anderson set bail at €500 and remanded Ms McCarthy on bail with certain conditions to appear again in court on 13 October in Athlone.
Ms Scanlon was the mother of three children.
