Eight men have been arrested as part of an investigation into drugs and organised crime in Co Tipperary.

The arrests followed the discovery of four pipe bombs, a handgun and ammunition during searches of a number of properties close to Tipperary town.

The men are aged in their 20s and 30s.

One man is due to appear at Youghal District Court tomorrow. The other seven have been released on bail and are due to appear at Tipperary District Court on 15 September.

An army bomb disposal team conducted controlled explosions on three of the devices, while the fourth was made safe and handed over to gardaí for further investigation.
