A man has been shot dead in Finglas in Dublin.

The victim, who was in his 20s, was shot on Barnmore Crescent just before 7pm tonight.

He was fatally injured and taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead shortly before 8pm.

It is understood that the dead man was known to gardaí.

A gunman approached the victim at the junction of Barnmore Crescent and St Helena's Road in Finglas and shot him a number of times.
