A teenage boy remains in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Shannon Banks on the outskirts of Limerick city in Co Clare.
The 16-year-old was assaulted at a petrol station shortly before 10pm last night.
The attack is being described as unprovoked.
Gardaí say no weapons were used in the incident. It is understood only two individuals were involved.
The victim is being treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, where he is in a ‘critical but stable’ condition.
A 17-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the incident.
He is being held at Henry Street Garda Station in the city, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
