Last-minute talks are taking place in Longford which could affect the future of more than 100 jobs at the B3 Cable Solutions Company.

Workers have appealed to Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan to meet representatives of Eircom and the ESB to ensure that their contracts with the company can be retained.

A deadline for a new owner to be found is set for noon tomorrow.

Receiver Alan Flanagan of Deloitte confirmed that he met Government agencies this morning as part of his ongoing work to try and secure a viable future for the cable manufacturing company.

It is understood one of the agencies he met with was the IDA.

Mr Flanagan also said that he will honour all outstanding salary payments owed to workers.

He was unwilling to confirm or deny reports that no formal offers have been made to buy the company.

The receiver also met SIPTU union officials at the Longford Arms Hotel this morning.

SIPTU Branch Secretary Sean Nolan said workers are still hopeful that a buyer could be found even at this eleventh hour.

104 full and part-time staff members are employed at the Aghafad plant.

Workers have already expressed their anger at the closure after facilitating short-time working arrangements for over a year.

The receiver was appointed to manage the business and assets of the company seven days ago.
