Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Limavady, Co Derry.
39-year-old Gary Butcher died in the Seacoast Road area of the town in the early hours of this morning.
Two men, aged 19 and 25, were arrested overnight in connection with the death, while a third man was arrested this afternoon.
The dead man was from the Magilligan area.
It is understood he was killed during a disturbance at a local bar.
The premises remained cordoned-off today as forensic officers carried out examinations.
Sinn Féin Assembly member for East Derry Billy Leonard said local people were devastated.
‘This news is absolutely tragic and families are now left reeling with shock and finding it hard to come to terms with the situation.’
‘Obviously all our thoughts are with the victim's family. The circumstances of this tragedy are unclear so it is obviously much harder for the families and the devastated community to come to terms with everything.'
'It will take a long time for the people there to deal with this incident.’
SDLP councillor Mickey Coyle urged anyone with information about the murder to come forward.
‘The Greater Limavady community are shocked and sickened that a young man's life has been savagely taken due to a pointless act of violence in a local bar.’
‘This is a terrible tragedy for the victim's family and I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to them at this awful time.’
