Poland's acting president has won the most votes in the first round of the Polish presidential election.

His main rival is leader of the opposition party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, brother of the former president who died in a plane crash.

Bronislaw Komorowski of the Civic Platform party is speaker of parliament and also Poland's acting president.

Mr Komorowski won 41% of the vote against 37% of his main rival, right-wing opposition leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

The election was forced by the death of Mr Kaczynski's identical twin brother, President Lech Kaczynski, along with 95 others, mostly senior political and military officials, in a plane crash in Russia on 10 April.
