A man is being held for questioning in relation to the discovery of the body of a 22-year-old man on a roadside just outside Greystones in Co Wicklow.

Gardaí say the victim - who was 22 - had head wounds.

A 22-year-old man was arrested this afternoon and is being detained at Bray Garda Station.

Gardaí were called to an altercation and found a man lying on the Farranakelly Road at Charlesland, which links the N11 and Greystones village, at around midnight.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

Gardaí say the events leading up to the altercation are under investigation and that three crime scenes are being examined.

The road where the body was found was preserved for a technical examination.

An apartment at nearby Farranakelly Close and an area of overgrown grass just a few hundred yards from the scene were also sealed off.

It is not yet clear how the man died, but it is understood that a witness saw two men fighting near the scene.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis examined the body at the scene this morning and a post-mortem examination was carried out this afternoon.
