A post mortem examination on the body found in a Co Meath field has revealed that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds.

The identify of the victim, however, is still not clear.

Gardaí investigating the disappearance of Dublin teenager Daniel McAnaspie earlier this year have been informed about the discovery.

The body was discovered by a man out walking in Rathfeigh, between Kilmoon Cross and Duleek.

The remains were at the bottom of a drainage ditch at the edge of a field close to the main Dublin to Derry road.

It is likely the remains were in the ditch for several months. They are believed to be that of a young male although no formal identification has been made.

The remains were removed to a Dublin hospital following a preliminary examination.

Gardaí are searching the area, which remains sealed-off.

Depending on the outcome, it is expected this will formally become a murder investigation later today.
