Two people have been killed in separate road crashes in Co Roscommon and Co Louth.

A 63-year-old man died after he was hit by a car at Elphin in Co Roscommon early this morning.

The accident happened shortly after 3.30am at Springfield, Elphin and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them in Boyle Garda Station on 071-9664620.

Elsewhere, a 73-year-old woman died in Ardee, Co Louth after the car she was driving collided with another car at 11.40pm last night.

The driver of the other car was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with minor injuries.

Gardaí have appealed for information about the crash.

In Co Down, a motorcyclist has died in a collision .

The incident happened around 1.30 this afternoon on the Castlewellan Road in Banbridge.

A second man, who was also travelling on a motorbike, has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A third biker was not injured in the collision.

Police in Banbridge are appealing for witnesses.
