Dermot McArdle has been remanded on bail following his appearance at the Dundalk District Court this morning.
Mr McArdle, 40, of Brookfield, Marlbog Road, Dundalk, is facing two charges of assault and theft of a camera last Saturday in Haynestown, Dundalk.
Garda Brendan Duffy told the court that he arrested and charged Mr McArdle at around 6pm on Saturday evening. In reply to the charge the accused said 'no comment'.
The court was told gardaí are awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and the case was adjourned by Judge Flann Brennan until 14 April.
In October 2008, Mr McArdle was convicted in a Spanish court of the manslaughter of his wife, Kelly Anne Corcoran.
