Two men have died following a double shooting in Dublin city centre.

The shooting happened just before 7pm at Pearse House on Pearse Street.

It is understood a number of men burst into a ground floor flat and fired at least three shots at the men.

One of the victims was taken to St James's hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead.

The second man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest but also died from his injuries.

The area around Pearse House has been sealed off and the scene preserved.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

The four, three men and a woman, were arrested in the city centre and in Finglas.

Two of the men are in their 40s and the third man and the woman are both in their 20s.

They are being held at four garda stations around the capital.
