A 75-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after being stranded in a field in Co Clare for several hours.

A neighbour reported the man missing to gardaí yesterday evening.

The neighbour had left the man feeding cattle at about 3pm, but could not find him when he returned to check.

It is understood the man had fallen in the field at Ballymacloon, Quin.

Gardaí could not access the area where the man was, and alerted the Valentia Coast Guard. The Shannon-based helicopter was used in the rescue operation shortly after midnight.
