A murder investigation is under way following the shooting dead of a man in west Dublin at 8.30pm last night.

Jason Egan was closing his family's Centrepoint newsagents on the corner of Ladyswell Road, Parlickstown in Mulhuddart when a lone gunman approached him and shot him at least four times in the chest.

Gardaí say the gunman left the scene on foot in the direction of Wellview Road.

It is believed he possibly had some form of transportation waiting for him.

Mr Egan was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown but died there within an hour of the attack.

Gardaí are seeking any possible witnesses to the shooting.

They are also looking for information on two cars found burned out in the wider area - a black Toyota Landcruiser just outside Dunshaughlin and a red Volkswagen Golf found on Valley Park Drive in Finglas.
