Two separate investigations are under way following the death of an eight-year-old boy in a swimming pool in Navan, Co Meath.

Isaac Agaba got into difficulty while swimming at the town's Aura leisure centre after 3pm yesterday.

He was taken to Our Lady's Hospital in the town but was pronounced dead.

Gardaí and management at the leisure centre are conducting investigations into what happened.

A spokesperson for the leisure complex said 80 people were in the pool when the incident happened and there were eight lifeguards on duty.

A post mortem examination was due to be carried out today.

The boy had only recently moved with his family to the housing estate across the road from the pool complex.

Mayor of Navan Joe Reilly said people are shocked at the death and said that if any issues arise following a garda investigation they will be addressed immediately.
