A man has died after the car he was driving went into the river Shannon in Killaloe in Co Clare early this morning.
The accident happened at around 5.30am.
Efforts were made by witnesses and gardaí to save the man, believed to be in his mid-30s. The coast guard and fire services also attended the scene.
The body was removed from the scene to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place.
